Internet Bingo and Mobile Technology Challenges

The British internet bingo market continues to evolve and grow. The industry has been quick to embrace new technologies including the latest mobile technologies. The estimated number of players is 463,982 and they wagered an astounding £243,243,978 during the same period. These numbers are for a three month period and yearly revenues must be staggering.

Currently the mobile bingo market faces a few challenges. Currently iPhones and iPads do not support flash technology. Unfortunately most internet bingo sites use flash powered games making access impossible for iPhone and iPad users. The absence of a keyboard on most smart phones limits participation in bingo chat rooms. Most industry studies have shown that most internet bingo players consider the ability to socialize during games very important. In face most internet bingo players value social networking more than financial gain. The smaller screen size limits the display of bingo cards and tickets and the lack of screen space limits side game participation. The good news is that most experts say these problems will be resolved in the very near future.

The mobile bingo market offers operators minimal market competition. The mobile market remains uncrowded and has unlimited potential for the online bingo sector. Players can pre purchase bingo cards and tickets using a mobile app and some operators are using mobile technology as a lead generating tool. Just less than half of all internet bingo players now own smart phones. Currently 57% do not own a smart phone, 26% own Android phones, 8% own iPhones and 9% use Blackberries. As can be seen most players prefer Android phones.

Players have different preference in the devices used to play online bingo. 61% use laptops, 23% use desktop computers, 9% use some sort of tablet device, 3% prefer Android phones and 4% prefer iPhones. An overwhelming number of players said that they are loyal to one bingo site. A majority of players said they have signed up at 3 to 5 bingo sites in the past. Internet bingo has the highest player retention rate of any sector of the internet gambling industry. Most industry experts believe that once all of the technological challenges are worked out mobile bingo will fuel the next bingo boom.
