Bored Football Widow Wins £1,364,745.23 Playing Internet Bingo !

From late summer to winter many women in the US adopt the title of ‘football widow.’ The term usually applies to a married woman whose husband is so wrapped up in football that he pays little or no attention to her. The UK and Europe also have ‘football widows’ especially during the ongoing Euro 2012 championship games. One football widow decided to take matters into her own hands and ended up £1.3 million pounds richer!

It all started when Lisa Potter, 33, decided to try her luck playing internet bingo after her partner, Terry Goodman, ignored her in favor of watching the 2012 football (Soccer in the US) championships. Lisa made a £5 bet and ended up with a check for £1,364,745.23. ($2,130,755.10 USD) The mother of three decided to log on to her favorite internet bingo sites because her partner has been tuning into the games every day. Lisa got bored and went to her laptop and won her millions while her husband intently watched Spain’s 4-0 victory over Ireland last Thursday night.

Lisa, who is from Witney, Oxfordshire, described what happened and told reporters “I had a spare minute and wanted to get away from the football so logged on. As soon as I saw the size of the jackpot, I thought it was worth a go and couldn’t believe my eyes when it said I’d won. I can’t remember much after that as it’s such a blur. My kids came into the room and we all started screaming together. I’ve given them the day off school and we’re all still running around today – it’s like a madhouse in here.”

Lisa’s win is the third largest bingo win in the history of internet bingo. It is also the largest bingo jackpot awarded in three years. Lisa said she plans to take her family in a luxury holiday and purchase a new house and car. Lisa told reporters “We’re a normal family so this will change my life forever. The first thing we’re going to do is buy a new house before treating ourselves.” Ladbrokes presented Lisa with a check for £1,364,745.23 and threw a champagne party to celebrate. Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said “We’re absolutely over the moon for her. We bet she’ll never moan at her man for watching the footie again. It’s one of the biggest wins of all time and we’ve sent some champagne along to get the party started.”

After Lisa’s big win Ladbrokes reported a 400% increase in the number of internet bingo players trying their luck. A friend of the family told reporters “Everyone in the area is delighted for them. Lisa is a lovely woman so it’s nice to see her have such good luck.”
